Looking Back, Setting Goals

I was going to post a timely reminder that the International Year of Millets will be drawing to a close soon, and with it, the related event. Then I realized clicking on hashtags of any kind makes Amino crash.

So instead, I think it’s time to start thinking about the coming year.

Up for Discussion

It would be nice to hear any thoughts you might have about these matters.

🩵 Do we still fear the bots enough to need hip requests?

🩵 What kind of content would you like to see more of?

🩵 Would events make this place feel more alive?

🩵 How do you feel about the cover image and theme?

Just for Fun

As the year draws to close, it’s a great time to reflect on the struggles and accomplishments of 2023. These are some reflective questions I ask just for fun.

🩵 Did anomalies in environmental conditions cause chaos for your plants or gardening this year?

🩵 Were any of your plants the absolute best this year?

🩵 What lessons has this year taught us about our plants?

What I’ve Been Up To

For me, this year’s growing season was characterized fungal pathogens and poor air quality. I didn’t take a lot of pictures on that my showier plants were a bit lackluster and it was usually raining. Or the air was nasty. But with any luck, some roots I planted this fall will make the gardens a little cheerier (and sturdier) in the spring. And maybe the outdoors will be a little nicer in 2024.

Watch it be the year of like, a horrible rabies plague or something.

In the meantime, Christmas cacti and African violets will keep me sharp. And I still have some lithops and my haworthia, though I don’t really know what they’re doing. Nothing but the new houseplant is blooming, nor has it been since one of the lilacs tried to flower and leaf back out on Halloween (poor, confused thing). But I think one of the orchids might bloom soon.

I like that we have no bots to fear by the hips requests, I think events would be nice at least every once in a while ir once a month kinda thing, though I'm not sure what kimd of events could be done. I do like the cober image and theme but if you wanted to change it that could also be okay.

This year has been great for my plants, though its my first year of growing plants so I'm not sure if any weather anomalies messed with them or not. My sugar snap peas have done very well, especially since it started to get chilly where I live they've been thriving. Though something I learned about my area, garden in general, spray insecticide for eastern lubber grasshoppers before and just after they hatch, those things are a menace. They killed 3 seperate succulent plants, almost killed another, almost took out two bushes too. Now that I'm growing food (In very high raised beds currently) there is no way I'm gonna let those little pests destroy them when I've worked so hard and my plants bring me so much joy! But overall I'm thankful it has been a good year for me on my planting journey.
