Prevalent Diffuculties in Studying Math

A lot of students say that Math is hard. It makes them dizzy and discouraged whenever they see numbers. Based on the research paper I made the following are the prevalent difficulties in studying Mathematics among 11th Graders:

1. Inability to easily connect abstract aspects with reality

According to the respondents, they don't usually understand Math because it is impractical to learn especially higher Maths like Calculus. Most teachers also throw different formulae on students without telling where they may use it. That makes learning Math boring for students.

2. Incomplete mastery of number facts

Based on the data gathered, even my respondents are already in 11th Grade, they have not mastered number facts. In fact, they haven't memorized the multiplication table. It is also the reason why solving problems become time consuming on their part. They also depend so much on their calculators.

3. Computational weakness

According to the respondents, although they are already Juniors in High School, they are still lacking in computational skill. A lot of them rely on their calculators since they don't know how to do simple arithmetic such as solving fractions, decimals,and percentages. This difficulty is also in line with their incomplete mastery of number facts.

4. Math anxiety

Based on the data gathered, majority of the respondents experience Math anxiety. They usually feel uncomfortable when they are in Math classes. They tend to chat with their seatmates instead of listening to the teacher. It also makes them anxious as they are afraid to be called in reciations or have incorrect answers on written tests.
