regarding ryan ross & transphobia

this is gonna be a long post, its all on my ig   [@timeforhalos|instagram.com/timeforhalos] and might be easier to read there :)

if you don’t know by now, an instagram who goes by the name of @emounmasked has been making posts about emo bands and spreading false information about them in an attempt to “expose” them. their most recent post is about ryan ross and one of their claims was that he was transphobic.

time to dance

the first piece of “evidence” they used to prove this was lyrics from the panic! song time to dance.

this is completely taken out of context. the song is about a book published in 1999 called “invisible monsters” by chuck palahniuk, the writer of fight club. during this time, society was quite sensitive/problematic about subjects such as lgbtq+ identities, women, toxic masculinity etc. this is what the book was mainly based around and because of this it was initially rejected by the publisher until fight club was successful and they gave it a second chance. it is a pretty disturbing book and uses shock value to expose & educate on those such subjects.

one of the characters, brandy alexander, is introduced as a trans woman but it turns out that brandy was in fact not transgender and instead appropriated the persona of a woman to escape the control of others.

this book obviously impacted ryan because in his generation they had nothing like the social media and resources that we have today. to a teenage boy breaking toxic masculinity stereotypes, this book would have been something like a relief to him.

text messages between ryan and shane morris

another piece of “evidence” about ryan being transphobic is messages between ryans ex-manager (?) shane morris.

first of all, shane morris is a horrible person. he has attempted to ruin ryan’s career and reputation multiple times by, for example, hacking into his twitter in 2014. he also started creating rumours that ryan was transphobic. i’d recommend looking at this post if you wanna know more about everything shane has done to ryan.

now it would be easy to say that shane morris faked this due to his history with trying to sabotage ryan’s reputation but i’d like to go a little more in depth. first off, shane has a cousin also named ryan, the name doesn’t have a second name so it could be either. i’d guess its his cousin as why would you put a second name for your relative? secondly, ryan cut ties with shane after the whole twitter hacking incident in 2014, so why would they message each other? it doesn’t seem like ryan’s personality in my opinon, i could be wrong, but i’d be surprised if it turns out these were actually between ryan ross and shane.
