Hi there! I’m pretty curious on how to set intentions, what do I say or do? I’ve heard so many say that intentions are important but don’t show how to actually say it, for example I have this white candle I would like to use for protection, what do I do to set intentions?

Personally, I set intentions by repeating (verbally or in my head) a written down phrase or more a few times. I don't number how many times I say the affirmations, I just say them until I should stop.

Another way to set intentions, and my favorite way since I love yapping, is simply talking to your spell or ingredient. Tell it what it's doing for the spell, how it should work. If it's something you're ionate about, rant to it.

Music also works. I a spell I made when I was absolutely livid at someone, and I just had World Burn from Mean Girls the Musical playing on loop for about four or five hours while working.

I agree with what everyone said, just gonna add on a little with an example, I just did a spell jar for my fiance, I could have put a bunch of stuff in that I heard goes with my intentions and called it a day, however what exactly i did was as I put each ingredient in I simply stated what it was in wanted it to do-putting an intention on it. Each ingredient for me has its own intention and its own job, they need to know the job you want to do so put something in while stating the intention one thing a time *being as specific as possible*

Intention is just knowing why you’re doing what you’re doing. You saying “you want to light the white candle for protection” IS an intention. That is why you are including the candle in the spell.

As Val said, you don’t have to speak it outloud or make it over the top about it. Even just thinking it in your head, having that idea for it when you get it, etc. There’s no right way to do an intention.

When people say to use intention, they mean not just throw a bunch of random stuff into a jar and expect it to work, without any rhyme or reason. Everything should have a purpose (even if it is as simple as only decorative).

I think meditation is a good tool to practice sensing energies. You can set a goal each time for how long you meditate for and it’ll get easier. I think understanding the basics of spell crafting could help you. Five different witches could write totally different spells with the same intention and even with the same materials. Doing what feels right to you is better than following a spell copy past.

Try for however long it takes, sitting with the white candle and connecting to the element of fire. You might figure out other elements are easier for you. Try creating a chant or a few affirmations that go along aside your particular intention. Repeating this in your head or out loud will raise up the energy and maybe help you get into the spell. Put emotions, ion behind your words, it will build up the energy some more. Speak to your candle of how your manifestations are coming true, speak of how heavily protected you are.

You don’t have to say or do anything, but if outwardly declaring your intention before workings helps you, or meditating as well, I see no problem with that! Intention is all about narrowing down to what you truly want from a working and honing in on that. No lies to yourself, just the truth. Ask yourself: “what do I want out of this specific working?” And you’ll find it in no time. You’ll feel certainty within yourself when you do.

Ooh I personally like stating what herbs do what like “salt for protection or rosemary for clarity” and I have full faith that it will work anyways, would that still work?
