Now, the only element missing from my little guide to the elements is air. The element that influences me the most. This element is very strongly represented in my astrology, and you can see that in my life journey.

There is a superb Wiki entry on air magic, which lists many aspects of this element.

Much of what is in my blog is also there, plus some things that I don't mention here. I'll add a few additions and some things I experience a little differently.

The element of air stands for change, movement, lightness, and communication. It symbolizes freedom, openness, curiosity, and creativity.
Air is the element that sets all other elements in motion. In magic (but also in nature), air is often used as a medium of transport. However, air can also bring impatience and fickleness, and those who need pedantic order and precise rules should perhaps not rely primarily on the element of air.

If you want to connect with the element of air, you can simply go outside and feel the wind, breathe consciously, watch birds in flight, drive with the windows open, go on a trip, sing, recite poetry, or philosophize with other people.

Different types of air:
Isn't air always the same? Yes and no. We refer to our atmosphere as air, i.e., a composition of different gases that makes our life possible. However, the term atmosphere also refers to the mood of a room, e.g., “The room has a gloomy atmosphere.”
If you look at the list below, you will quickly notice that everyone has their own personal feelings and memories of different atmospheres. Evening air has a relaxing effect on many people, but on some it is frightening. So the descriptions below are mine and not universally valid. Air is the vehicle for our sensations. It communicates with us, often unconsciously. We just have to listen. It can be helpful to choose a specific time of day or season for a spell, or to go to a specific place to weave it.

If you can't or don't want to do that, you can visualize or empathize with the appropriate atmosphere to create the right moment. Everyone has their own types of air that they associate with something, such as air in the basement or the library, etc. I have listed some types of air and my associations with them here:
🌬Morning air - symbolizes purity and new beginnings for me
🌬Evening air – brings me peace and stands for farewell, but can also be frightening and awaken spirits
🌬Forest air – gives me clarity and freshness; a walk in the forest organizes my thoughts and cleanses my soul.
🌬Mountain air – freedom and vastness; when I need or want to let go of something, or when something needs to be carried as far away as possible, it is worth climbing to a high place, be it a tower or a hill.
🌬Sea air – sometimes gentle, sometimes stormy, sea air frees and cleanses both the respiratory tract and the mind. Sea air awakens dreams and desires. I like to use it for wish spells.
🌬Spring air – brings fertility, awakens my hope and cheerfulness
🌬Thunderstorm air – energetic, full of tension – e.g. for damage spells

Movement:
Wind
Wind is moving air and reflects the strength and urgency of the necessary movement. Wind is created by high and low pressure areas. A low-pressure area is created when warm air expands and rises. It then leaves an area of low pressure on the ground. Conversely, cold air sinks to the ground, increasing the pressure. Nature always strives for balance, so air flows from an area of high pressure to an area of low pressure. The larger the areas and the greater the pressure difference, the stronger the wind.

🌬Calm – for peace and balance, e.g. for meditation or when something needs to be stopped.
🌬Gentle breeze – for lightness and normality, healing spells.
🌬Strong breeze – to energize, for anything that needs a lot of air energy or needs to be pushed (gusts of wind), creativity spells, change spells, renewal spells.
🌬Storm – destructive and chaotic. To end things, such as banishing spells, or to leave chaos, such as damage spells.
🌬Increasing or decreasing wind – to speed things up or slow them down.
Body movement
Another way to use the element of air is to move yourself instead of the air. Jumping, running, hopping, gymnastics—these are all movements that can express different things. I use a few movements regularly.

🌬Dance – for ritual dances, trance states, etc.
🌬Gestures – to represent symbols or figures or, for example, to push something away from me, i.e., to reject or give up something.
🌬Travel – physically or mentally to gain knowledge.

Sound:
Acoustics are a very important part of air magic. Noises and sounds have a great influence on us and evoke a wide variety of effects that can be actively used (e.g., Solfeggio frequencies).
There are countless ways to use sound:

Instruments
To give signals, such as a beginning or an end. They can also be used to call upon ancestors or pay homage to the gods, or as accompanying music to calm or stimulate and to convey messages. Music also has four elements: rhythm (earth), sound (air), melody (water), and dynamics (fire).
🌬Deep tones such as drums or a gong connect air with earth and provide and rhythm.
🌬Spherical sounds from wind instruments symbolize air energy and expand the senses.
🌬Flowing melodies, e.g., on the piano, connect air with water and awaken our feelings.
🌬Dynamic music that is loud and/or fast, e.g., fanfares, connect air and fire, invigorate us, and increase our energy.
Voice

A very powerful, probably even the most powerful, tool of air magic. Words have power, and there are witches who largely or even completely dispense with symbols in their magic and work only with words. But this takes me beyond the elemental teachings, so I will not elaborate further on this point. It is important to choose your words carefully. This applies to life in general and even more so to spells and curses.
It is not only what we say that is important, but also how we say it. The effect of a word changes greatly depending on whether it is whispered lovingly or given as a sharp command. Emotions can be very effectively incorporated into a spell through the voice.
🌬Whispering – for things that should remain personal
🌬Purring – to entice or ensnare
🌬Pleading – to increase the urgency of a request, e.g. when praying
🌬Speaking – clear, neutral words that do not convey any particular intention
🌬Calling – as a command or to draw attention to something
🌬Howling – as a symbol of victory or to stir up fears
🌬Shouting – shows anger or serves as a deterrent
🌬Chanting – for affirmations, to follow a certain rhythm
🌬Cheering – symbolizes success and happiness
🌬Singing – depending on the song, for corresponding emotions
🌬Humming – for the subconscious, e.g. to change behavior
🌬Lamenting – symbolizes injustice or grief
🌬Whining – stands for sorrow and pain
🌬Whimpering – describes illness and distress
🌬Hissing - as an attack or defense
🌬Whistling - there are entire languages based on whistling; a whistle can be a sign of recognition or a warning, for example.
These are just a few examples; there are no limits to creativity here.
Of course, the voice can also change within a ritual to convey meaning.

Air and its symbols:
Since air is constantly around us but nevertheless very difficult to grasp, symbolic air is often used in magic:

🌬Birds and feathers – as messengers, for divination, as altar decorations, for dream catchers and spells
🌬Flying insects, such as butterflies, dragonflies, flies, ladybugs – as omens, as messengers, for decoration
🌬Bells and rattles – for altar decorations or as wind chimes for protective spells
🌬Painted symbols or runes

Practical work with air:

In addition to natural winds and sound, there are other ways to add air energy to my magic:
🌬Inhaling air – to absorb something, e.g. the power of the herbs I am burning or simply air energy.
🌬Exhaling air – to let something go
🌬Breathing air – to breathe life into something or to awaken it
🌬Blowing air – to set something in motion and give it direction, or to cool it down or fan a fire.
🌬Fanning air – to disperse something, dissolve it, make it disappear, and cool it down.
🌬Taking air – to smother something, e.g., a fire.
🌬Ventilating – to refresh something; in German, secrets are also “ventilated,” i.e., revealed.
🌬Soap bubbles or balloons – bursting something to end/destroy it or letting it rise and fly away for wishes and dreams (balloons leave dangerous rubbish outdoors!)
These lists are not exhaustive either. Please feel free to add to them at any time.
