So to clarify things I have been practicing jodo Shindhu ( Shin Buddhism) for nine years now. I consider myself a pretty devout Shin Buddhist, I 100% surrender to lord Amida and view myself as a Refugee in need of his help and light and I love my Lord with my whole being.
That being said in the pureland sutra there has always been a thing in the sutra that has stumped me. It says there are birds in the Pureland but not animals....I may have to reread the text again....but wouldn't a bird be considered a animal in our eyes? Are these the only animals allowed into the pureland? If so why ?
